Angus McGill : “Men’s fashions all start as sports clothes and progress to the great occasions of state. The tailcoat, which started out as a hunting coat, is just finishing such a journey. The tracksuit is just beginning one.”
Sorry, I haven’t posting lately. I’m
swamped in my sorrows and sadness and also college stuff, I’m gonna talk about
it later or in the next post or maybe never. So today I’m gonna talk about MENS
ACCESSORIES, I talk about all the weird mens accessories.
Back in the earlier man cave age, men had already accessories like a
bones enemy or animal for necklace or bracelet, a headdress from bird feather,
a layered furry boots tied up with strings, and a fine leather bag pack to
carry weapon or food. It all looks so manly and macho and showing the maturity
of himself and ready to be married. As the ages goes by, men’s accessories developing
and changing. It became more elegant and civilized, but some still look the
same. No more necklaces for men or bracelet, the women takes part they change
bones with gemstones, the strings turns into gold or silver something shining
to blinding men’s eye. And somehow men’s like to spoil their lady to covering
herself up with shiny thing.
And today as we know men’s back
to invasion the girls they want accessories too to improve their style. They want
something shiny, something edgy and outstanding. So they make their own style stiletto
heels. History speaks in the beginning King Louis wore a first heels to improve
his height. But he didn’t wore a sharp pointy heels or wedges, am I right. So many
men’s wearing it that day and try to make it happens, and I beg to you, STOP
MAKING MANS_HEELS HAPPENS, ITS NOT GONNA HAPPENS, although it really
impressed me how they can dance smoothly wearing heels in Madonna or lady gaga
music videos. And then we have mans-clutch, I don’t know about this thing. I think
its not practical, I mean what you put into that mini strapless bag? Men always
brings a lot of stuff, men always prepare for everything that’s why they brings
a lot of stuff and how you gonna put all that stuff into mini strapless bag? And
not just all of that, men’s accessories became more personal, specific and
edgy. And turns out men’s have same exact accessories with his lady. Not just accessories
but also make up and body care products.
So why men need accessories? The accessories men that I know is cufflinks, bracelets (of course with manly style not the shiny one), wristwatch, scarf, shoes (I don’t care as long its not a stiletto or wedges), a real bag (briefcase, bag pack, messenger bag, you named it). What about necklace or ring? Well, I did a little survey for these two things. I ask to all of my girlfriends, what’s their opinion about men wearing necklace or ring or maybe both. The first one is necklace, all of them say BIG NO TO MEN WITH NECKLACE, the reason it look like a bad guy (I mean literally BAD GUY) or pervert (I don’t know about this) and its not represent the real men or gentlemen. But some say its okay, as long is still simple and manly not too edgy or a cross necklace.
And then we have ring, men with
the ring (it’s not a wedding ring). Okay I will explain about this, in my town,
Padang, older men wearing ring with gemstones on it. Traditionally in Minang
cultures men wearing it after they married (no it’s still not a wedding ring)
and after that the elder will gave a title into his name, like “Datuak Rajo
Intan” or “Datuak Rajo Pituan”. The titles function is to represent the man’s
personality to society and to remain him to the Village they grew up. An ‘Batu
Akik’ or ‘Akik ring’ also has a religious importance in Islam as it considered
sunnah to wear one due to the fact that our prophet Muhammad wore an akik ring set with sliver on his right
hand, and that in imitation many Muslims including clergy from both shia and
sunni sect today do the same. Probably Islam traditions affects to my culture
in Minang. Some say batu akik is filled with voodoo stuff or genie by shaman. And
when you wearing it, you will have a power (no it’s not like superpower or
superhero stuff like Green lantern or Sauron’s rings) to do bad stuff or
protect you from bad thing. It’s depends on the voodoo inside the ring.
So it’s pretty common thing to see older men wearing ring in my town. And suddenly the young men wanna try to. They wear it for aesthetic of the stones and want to improve their style but not for me. They didn’t filled their ring with voodoo stuff (but some do that), just pure for their style. I found batu akik is way too old for me. I mean u can wear your dads’ boots and still look awesome but not his akik ring, it makes you look older. And I don’t know why a lot of my friends wearing it. Akik ring made from all of gemstones type, like zamrud, sapphire, Ruby, and else and it comes with a lot of colors and size, like red, maroon, pink, green, blue, and many more. Now back to our topic, all of my friends say NO TO MEN WEARING RING. The reasons are they don’t like it, they think it’s not match up with their age. I guess they had a point for that. A ring, no matter how they look or made or size (except wedding ring or engagement ring) it’s not made for men.
So men, lets keep a simple yet
elegant and comfy style, you can experience or try to be edgy sometimes but don’t
cross that line too far. Many designers design an edgy or modern style for men.
But I always love a gentlemen’s style, a real men wearing like a gentleman suit
or dress up like a Sir. If the future men will wear some kind of like
futuristic dress or mans-heels, well then sayonara future, I will go back in
time just like pittbul songs. Have a nice day :)
